Hello MacMammas and Papas:
So sorry that this issue is going out so late this week. For those who know me, they know that I can be a totally ditzhead, and I am always losing everything. Well, this week, I lost my computer on the way home from work. It's a pretty big computer bag, and I didn't even notice that it was lost until I went to get off the bus, and, oh crap, where's my computer bag? I totally freaked out, since I was supposed to work from home the next day. I made calls to Port Authority's Lost & Found, Hudson News where I stopped to get magazines, Duane Reade where I stopped to get makeup, and no one had my bag. Suddenly, I remembered that someone had bumped into me pretty hard while I was walking on 8th Avenue. So, I got it into my head that this person stole the computer bag off my back. Or...maybe I left the computer bag at my desk.
I went in bright and early the next morning, and of course, my computer and computer bag wasn't at my desk. So, I made the assumption that it was stolen off my back. And this is what I told my boss and IT department. Fast forward to the end of the day, and while in Port Authority, I thought that I should just stop by the Hudson News just to doublecheck if they found a computer. And lo in behold, they HAD my computer bag! So, now I feel like a fool at work, and my husband said that I owe a big apology to the guy who bumped into me and thought was a thief! In the end, I am happy to have my own computer back with all my files, passwords, and favorite websites saved. And I get to finish up Macaroni Kid for you...even a few days late.
This week we celebrate "Read Across America" and Dr. Seuss's birthday, both which are near and dear to my heart. I have been an avid reader since I was a little girl, and I have always loved how books can take you to faraway places all over the world. And Dr. Seuss books are just my all-time favorite: my dad read them to me, I read them to my kids, and I was lucky enough to see his favorite characters like Horton, Gertrude McFuzz, and Cat in the Hat come to life when I performed in one of my favorite musicals, Seussical. I played a yellow Who, complete with 3 ponytails and huge yellow flowers in my hair.
I will leave you with a few of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes:
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”
Oh, the Places You'll Go!
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
“A person's a person, no matter how small.”
Horton Hears a Who!
“You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!”
Oh, the Places You'll Go!
“I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful one-hundred percent!”
Horton Hatches the Egg
“You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.”
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
Peace, love, and macaroni, and green eggs and ham,
