Hello MacMammas and Pappas:
Phew, another really long week. I don't know about you, but my head is already about to fly off with all of the forms to sign, activities to join, checks to write, school supplies to buy, homework to review, and reading logs to oversee. And then there is always my favorite 10:00 PM request: "Mom, I need a purple hat, $50 in quarters, super glue, neon-colored post-it notes, blah, blah, blah, request.
And, I really thought the sleepovers would slow down once the summer was over. Nah, last week, we had 5 USY friends from all over NJ sleep at our house. And 2 of them were boys, and 3 were girls. So now, I have a co-ed sleepover once again. I came downstairs the next morning to find water bottles, paper plates, bags of chips, pillows, blankets, and clothes all over, and 4 girls sleeping together on a queen-size air mattress. Aah, they are so peaceful and quiet when they finally fall asleep at 4:30 AM. And the next morning, my husband gets to be a short-order cook as he makes pancakes, eggs, and toasted bagels. I need to get him a special apron. But, at least, they have lots of nice friends and are safe and happy in our house.
This morning started off pretty crappy--literally. I woke up with a raging sinus headache and decided that I needed to work from home. It was a good thing that I did because at 8:15 AM, I got a text from my oldest son that he stepped in a huge pile of dog doo and totally smelled up the bus and his homeroom class. So, with a raging headache, I try to find something to help the pain, and all I could find was baby aspirin. So, I chugged down a bottle of baby aspirin and ran to school with clean sneakers. Luckily, the baby aspirin worked and my headache went away.
Tonight, my two oldest kids and one of their friends were over my house to get ready for the first Colts Neck High School football game and pep rally. It was a White Out pep rally, and they were dressed head-to-toe in white with high knee socks and face paint. Oh, and white paint handprints on my daughters' legs and butt...real cute. Plus, my pale son looked even more like a ghost with white face paint on. As we speak, they are at the game and yet another few kids are sleeping over. I swear I run a dormitory--I should really begin to charge room and board soon. But first, they are all going to Applebee's after the game. And now I realize that my kids are old enough to be one of the enormous pack of teenagers that drive you crazy every Friday night at Applebee's. How did that happen...it seems like yesterday they were still ordering from the Kids' Meal.
Tomorrow, we are having Jake's birthday party at Kelvin's Basketball--so it should be another day filled with lots of craziness and kids. And then on Sunday, we have a USY car wash, Hebrew School, challah baking, Marlboro Day, a Monmouth Torah Links BBQ, and orientation for the Friendship Circle. Whoa--I am tired just thinking about it.
Hope to see you on Marlboro Day--where else can you place your kids on free rides, make a shofar, get free pens and Halloween bags, watch football with the mayor, eat funnel cake, buy jewelry, dance with the Noble DJs, and see everyone in the whole town?
Peace, love, and macaroni
