Now, many years later, I am terrible about sending out cards for any special occasion. If I remember to buy cards (which usually end up costing a small fortune), I forget to get stamps, and then I forget to mail the card. Don't even ask how many times I have fed-exed a $5.00 card to my parents! So stressful!
So, I was super excited to hear about the first-of-its-kind Creatacard app exclusively for iPad from American Greetings. Once you install the free app on your iPad, your kids can design their own card with state-of the-art drawing and decorating tools. They can create a picture using a "crayon", "chalk," or a "marker," and then can add "stickers" and upload a photo from the iPad. To sign their name, they can use a "pencil" and have several fonts and colors to choose from! To finish it up, they can even add a even a "picture frame" and sign the "Made By" spot on the back of the card. TaDa--a beautiful homemade card WITHOUT the mess!
And then once they are done with their masterpiece, they hand over the iPad for you to order the card online for $3.49. Note that there are special security steps in place that ensure that only adults can purchase a card. American Greetings then prints out the card and envelope, puts a stamp on it, and mails it out! Wow finally--the answer to all my birthday/anniversary/holiday card problems!
My mom's birthday was coming up in a few weeks, so we decided to give the app a try! I handed the iPad over to my daughter who drew a gorgeous card using the app's markers, crayons, and stickers. She even took an impromptu selfie on the iPad's camera and downloaded the selfie to the front of the card--so cute and personalized! Grandma will love this!
I wasn't sure if my younger son was going to love the app, since he is 100% about sports and hates everything to do with art. But, he loved using the premade cards (he chose the Ninja Turtles theme) and then signing his name.
When my mom got the cards, she immediately called to tell us how much she loved them! They looked like real store-bought cards, but even better, they were personalized with my kids' photos, drawings, words, and signatures.
Next up, we plan on making cards for Grandparents Day, which is on Sunday, September 7! Click here for directions on how to design a beautiful bouquet on your card. Order by August 29 to make sure your card gets there on time!
