Peace, Love, and Hershey's Kisses

February 9, 2012

Happy Valentine's Day, MK subscribers!

Once you become a kid, did you ever notice that it is all about the kids. Take Valentine's Day for instance, my husband and I used to go out to dinner, see a show, spend time together. Now, he's lucky if he even gets a card. I love making my kids feel special on holidays, and Valentine's Day is one of my favorites. It's one of the days that I set up my kitchen table with gifts, candy, and fun food. So, every year I am up at midnight setting up the table with pink plates, champagne glasses (for orange juice), tons of Hershey kisses, and little gifts for each kid.  My kids really look forward to holidays in our house, Last year before Valentine's Day, before he went to sleep, Jakey asked me if he was going to have mini muffins like on his birthday.  I love seeing their faces when they come down to the kitchen and see the decorated table. And yes, I had French vanilla mini muffins for breakfast.

Then there's my grouchy 11-year-old son who mumbled that we shouldn't be celebrating Valentine's Day and that is a Hallmark holiday. Funny, he doesn't seem to mind when he opens up his gift! And Arielle is all about candy and gifts. Of course, each year she needs a new Valentine's Day outfit. Jakey is all about the Hershey's Kisses. Every Valentine's Day when I asked him for hugs and kisses before I leave for work, he hugs me and says, "Don't you mean hugs and Hershey kisses, mom?"

One of the best things about working at WebMD is that my browser opens up to the consumer website every morning. So, if I get to work early, I get to read all kinds of fun articles. And yes, one day after reading all these articles, I may become a doctor, psychologist, or relationship expert. Here are 3 of my favorite Valentine's Day articles on WebMD:
