Lion King 3D Out this Week...

Catch This Old Classic in 3D

September 15, 2011

Back in 1994, I volunteered as a big sister and took my "little sister" Justine to see "The Lion King." We both loved the movie and it became one of my favorite Disney films. I loved the music and "Hakuna Matata--No Worries" became my theme song. And forget it, when Jennifer Hudson sang "Circle of Life" in front of Elton John on "American Idol," she became my favorite American Idol--who knew that so many years later she would win an Oscar award for "Dreamgirls?" My favorite scene in the movie is when the wise old monkey holds up the little lion king in front of the whole jungle. Six years later in 2000, during Arielle's baby naming, the rabbi held Arielle up "a la Lion King" style, and I had my own proud "Lion King" moment. Do you think the rabbi knew Arielle would grow up to be such a strong personality and leader? So, I can't wait to officially take my own kids to see the 3-D version of "Lion King!" See the movie review below by fellow MK Publisher, Harold Rosenthal.

The original Disney's The Lion King was released in 1994 and instantly became a HUGE hit, making it one of Disney’s most popular animation movies. And now in 3D, your kids can enjoy the movie again.

The Lion King 3D is going to be hitting 3D movie theaters on September 16th for just two weeks. Macaroni Kid Camarillo was invited to see a special screening of this 3D version and so what follows is the review of the movie in 3D.

My daughter and I went to a preview showing of “Lion King 3-D”.  The movie is the original Lion King redone with 3-D effects.  For my four-year-old daughter, this was the first time she saw the movie so everything was new to her.  Some of early scenes were a little scary and intense for her causing her to turn away, but when all was said and done she loved the movie and wants us to buy the video.  My daughter was not fond of the 3-D glasses but that has been the case with all 3-D movies and she seems to enjoy watching the movies without them.

For those that haven’t seen the movie, it tells story of Simba who grows from a playful Lion Cub into the King he is destined to be.  It has the usual ups and downs and, of course, a happy ending.  The soundtrack, written by Elton John and Tim Rice is wonderful.  There are beautiful ballads like “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Circle of Life”; and fun upbeat songs “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and “Hakuna Matata”.  I enjoyed the movie when I saw it years ago, and it was even better in 3-D.  The beautiful scenery views really come alive in 3-D.  The action scenes become more intense with the effects, including one time when the villain, Scar,, seems to jump right out of the screen at the audience.  The Lion King was a marvelous movie originally, but the 3-D effects make it even better.
